For Amarillo & Texas Panhandle drivers
A do-it-yourself alternative to four to eight weeks at a traditional CDL school. Prepare on your schedule with an affordable program that can save you thousands.
The self-taught CDL program
If you can’t step away from work for four to eight weeks of traditional CDL school, build on the driving skills you already have.
Move quickly through the skills you already know and spend your practice time on the ones you still need. We give you the tools to prepare without enrolling in a traditional four- to eight-week CDL school. With the right service selections, you can use our customer study materials, schedule vehicle familiarization and reserve a suitable truck or bus for your test.
Already comfortable backing a pickup and trailer? Can you identify tires, lug nuts, a steering gearbox and a coolant reservoir? Those are skills you can build on. If commercial vehicles are new to you, Jamie can help you work out how much hands-on time you’ll need.
Use the study materials to identify vehicle components, rehearse your inspection in order and explain what you’re checking and why.
Review the maneuvers, then arrange time with the vehicle to practice the setups and corrections you need for the backing test.
Arrange road familiarization and a test vehicle that fits the license you’re pursuing. Jamie can go over the vehicle, appointment and meeting location before you travel from Amarillo.
Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT)
Drivers who call us report quotes in this range from other providers for behind-the-wheel ELDT alone.
With qualifying Class A or Class B service selections, we offer instructor-led ELDT on the range and public road at no additional charge for drivers who demonstrate the required skills on their first attempt. The instructor documents proficiency in both settings.
Your test preparation is self-taught and self-paced. When ELDT is required, theory is a separate course through a registered provider, and the behind-the-wheel portion takes place in person. Jamie will explain which selections qualify and what additional practice would involve if you need it.
Choose with confidence. Verify the details.
FMCSA has removed thousands of training providers from its registry and has identified failures involving curriculum, qualifications and records. That makes careful provider selection essential.
Compare what each provider includes. Look for complete instruction, meaningful assessments, accessible support and proper electronic completion reporting.
Verify the provider and the exact training type you need, and review any notices.
Review curriculum, assessment, access, support and refund terms before enrolling.
A printed certificate does not replace the electronic TPR record used for licensing.
Read the U.S. DOT enforcement announcement, Dec. 1, 2025 and FMCSA provider guidance for details on provider oversight.
