CDL test vehicles for Amarillo drivers

For an Amarillo driver moving from a farm truck to commercial hauling, the trailer and the road work can change the license goal.

Panhandle farm and freight vehicles

A grain straight truck and a tractor pulling a grain trailer handle differently when backing. Bring both the power-unit and trailer ratings, then discuss which setup will represent the job on test day.

What to confirm before reserving a test vehicle

Truck, trailer and bus specifications

Tell the office the power-unit and trailer weight ratings, coupling type, transmission and brake system. For a bus, include its intended use and designed seating capacity. Ask DPS about license restrictions associated with the equipment you test in.

Familiarization and test-day rental

Request separate amounts for pre-trip inspection practice, backing, road familiarization and the test-day truck or bus. Ask about fuel, location, retest and cancellation terms. An examiner appointment and an equipment reservation are arranged separately.

Upgrading from Class B to Class A

Moving to a Class A combination can require upgrade theory and behind-the-wheel training. Tell the provider about your current license before enrolling and ask which tractor and trailer will be available for your appointment.
